Employees

VELUX aspires to treat its employees better than most other companies. This is achieved by, for instance making a special effort to increase health and safety at the factories by striving to reduce the number of work-related accidents, reducing the use of chemicals and preventing repetitive strain injuries.

On-site initiatives
Other examples of special measures implemented primarily through on-site initiatives include a commitment to employee training, initiatives to retain employees with long-term health problems, the provision of an inclusive workplace and activities to improve employee health.

The Villum Kann Rasmussen Award
Each year the Employee Foundation of the VKR Group presents the Villum Kann Rasmussen Award on the occasion of Villum Kann’s birthday on 23rd January. The award has been presented since 1996 and honours employees who have made a special contribution to achieving the Model Company Objective.

Employee Foundation of the VKR Group
The Employee Foundation of the VKR Group was set up in 1991 with the object of benefiting the Group’s employees worldwide.

The Foundation’s three main, specific programmes are to:

  • assist present and former employees and their next of kin in the event of unfortunate situations with serious consequences.
  • provide support for the continued education of the children of employees.
  • support other causes in aid of employees or groups of employees.

OHSAS 18001
OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) is an internationally recognised health and safety management system which requires each factory to lay down a number of objectives for occupational health and safety and to produce action plans for achieving these objectives. In this way, responsibility for health and safety is lodged with management at each individual factory.

2003 saw the first VELUX factory certified according to OHSAS 18001, and the work has continued in 2004 and 2005 where all factories were certified.

Work-related accidents
VELUX is committed to reducing the number of accidents and, ideally, to preventing them altogether.

As a basis for assessment of safety measures, all VELUX factories record the number of work-related accidents for hourly-paid workers according to a common standard and account for them relative to the number of working hours.

A smiley with a crown
In recognition of the extraordinary efforts made by VELUX factories to secure a high level of health and safety standards, a number of Danish VELUX factories have been awarded a socalled ”smiley with a crown” by the Danish Working Environment Authority. The smiley indicates that the factory holds a recognised health and safety certificate. The following factories have been awarded this smiley: A/S Østbirk Bygningsindustri, Gåsdal Bygningsindustri A/S, Velskin Aps, Thyregod Bygningsindustri A/S, BT Components A/S, Skærbæk Bygningsindustri A/S, Velterm A/S.
