VELUX production

More efficient production and operation

VELUX production accounts for about 95% of the Group’s total CO2 emissions, so initiatives to reduce that figure are aimed primarily at reducing the energy consumed by production facilities.

The target is for CO2 reductions to be made first and foremost through real and practical optimisation in VELUX part of the value chain – that is, to be achieved mainly by our own efforts.

If these initiatives are not sufficient to bring about an adequate reduction in relation to the targets we have set or legislative requirements, we have the option of buying "green" electricity, CO2 quotas, or to implement CO2 reduction measures in connection with forestry.

Current and planned initiatives for operational optimisation include:
  • heating by boiler units fuelled on wood chips from production
  • optimisation of chip suction with compressed air
  • optimisation of compressor technology
  • other optimisation of technologies such as intelligent control of lighting and ventilation.
Miscellaneous activities in VELUX sales companies and administration account for about 5% of the Group’s total CO2 emissions and a series of initiatives will be implemented here too to optimise energy consumption. They include:

  • electricity-saving measures at all VELUX offices and units
  • company car policy – incentives for optimisation of fuel economy
  • review of forms of travel
  • ‘green check’ – also suppliers
  • staff guidelines for environmentally-correct behaviour.
