Measured in terms of volume, wood, glass, steel and aluminium are some of the most important raw materials that go into the production of VELUX products.
These commodities are either nature’s own raw materials and readily available, or materials that are readily recyclable
Use of wood
Wood is a renewable and biodegradable resource and is CO2-neutral during its lifetime. We aim to achieve sustainability in our wood manufacturing by ensuring the right balance between environmental, economic and social aspects of forest management.

We therefore strive to purchase and use wood that has been certified in accordance with one of the internationally recognised standards – FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
To check that we are achieving this aim, we record data on the origin and volume of purchased wood on its arrival at the factories, storing the information in a central database. Moreover, we are in close dialogue with our suppliers to ensure that we will be able to meet our targets and we urge them to achieve certification in accordance with internationally recognised standards.
We primarily use a variety of wood known as Nordic pine from forests where planting of trees exceeds cutting. Most of the wood is sourced from Finland and Sweden, but we also use – to a lesser extent – wood from countries such as France, Norway, Poland and Russia.
