These tests simulate the various weather conditions that will affect VELUX windows in the different climates where they are installed, for instance heavy snowload, heat and cold, wind and rain and many years of use including for example 25,000 opening and closing operations.
Our thorough internal tests are followed by tests and approvals by internationally accredited laboratories to ensure that any new products have been tested in every detail before they are installed in people’s homes.
At our factories, each step of the process is carefully checked, including inspection of components to ensure that they meet our specifications.
Both our development and manufacturing units are subject to independent quality assurance to ensure that they meet our quality standards.
Durability and watertightness tests
Durability tests are performed to simulate many years of use and to account for weather conditions in all parts of the world. One method is to test the windows in a sun simulator that simulates intensified sun impact and its effect on components such as the window covers.
Watertightness tests are performed both in a test box and in our own windtunnel where the windows and the connection to the roof are tested in natural size and exposed to some of the world’s most severe artificial rain and wind tests.
These tests ensure that our windows can withstand wind and water exposure, even under extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes.
