Jadarhus ISOBO Aktiv
Norway

As reality is the ultimate test of new ideas, Jadarhus ISOBO Aktiv aims to test a range of new technologies to improve energy efficiency and indoor climate.

There is no shortage of ideas when it comes to sustainable solutions. However, choosing the right ones requires hard data and careful consideration.

Jadarhus ISOBO Aktiv in Norway was built to test and develop new technologies for energy efficiency and healthy indoor climate. Furthermore, the project team sought out local partners and suppliers to develop their competences and create volume that would result in more favourable prices and simplify planning and service.

Working on a development site in Norway, the design team set out to transform one of 12 existing house plans according to Active House principles. Solar power, sunlight, active ventilation and sun shading would be essential to creating a low-energy home with an optimal climate and stable temperatures.

Situated in the Norwegian region of Stavanger, Jadarhus ISOBO Aktiv is a timber house with a traditional rafter construction. All construction units – industrially produced by Optimera – were delivered dry, pre-cut and ready for assembly, reducing construction waste on the building site.

The home’s windows – key sources of energy – were strategically placed not only to provide optimal lighting but also to contribute to natural heating and ventilation. A smarthouse technology system allows the residents to control such factors as light and heat with a smartphone.

Solar Collectors integrated in the south-facing roof provide energy for space heating and hot water. They can typically generate up to 70% of the energy required for hot-water production.

Fresh air delivered through natural ventilation is an essential component of a healthy indoor climate. The Jadarhus ISOBO Aktiv team designed an active ventilation system, with automatic facade windows and VELUX INTEGRA® roof windows, operated by an io-homecontrol® system.
