The VELUX Group represented at Karim Rashid retrospective exhibit

At this year’s Milan Furniture Fair design museum La Triennale di Milano is exhibiting a retrospective by one of the design world’s most prolific and creative personalities, Karim Rashid.

The exhibit showcases 100 selected designs and art works celebrating 15 years of colourful and beautifying design by Karim Rashid.

As part of the fiftieth Milan Furniture Fair (April 12 to 17 2011), La Triennale di Milano has dedicated 400 square metres exclusively to the designs, videos, installation art and so-called ‘blobjects’ by Karim Rashid. The retrospective exhibit, ‘KARIM SAMPLER – AN EDIT FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS’, is curated by Marco Casamonti, director of Italian architecture & design magazine, AREA.

Selecting 100 ‘touchable and visible’ works from a portfolio of more than 3,000 designs is a challenge. However, the exhibit convincingly illustrates the development and extent of Karim Rashid’s work and extraordinary talent. From the iconic paper bin, Cestino Garbo (1996), produced in more than 2 million copies, to the innovative vacuum cleaner, Dirt Devil, and his most recent designs for the VELUX Group.

Earlier this year the VELUX Group launched a unique collection of blackout blinds by Rashid. Inspired by a ’digital nature’ and with a dynamic techno-organic expression.

“Being selected for this exhibit that is part of the internationally renowned Milan Furniture Fair really cements our new strategy of working together with internationally acknowledged designers,” says Kent Holm, Global Director of Accessories at the VELUX Group.

“Choosing to work with Karim Rashid came out of the recognition that if you want to be innovative, you have to experiment and demonstrate courage in the design process. Usually our products serve the purpose of being discrete, but the new designs by Karim Rashid attract attention and add another feature besides quality and value for money to our products. And to be represented at this retrospective celebrating his talent and design career is both an honour and a great acknowledgement.”
