Local Society

The VELUX Group wishes to play a responsible and active role in the local communities in which our companies are sited.

For instance, a number of VELUX Group companies cooperate with local institutions and sheltered workshops running employment promotion schemes for people with reduced working capacity as a result of physical, mental or social problems.

Moreover, through the Employee Foundation of the VKR Group, the VELUX Group's companies support activities that make a difference to their neighbouring local communities.

This often comes about because VELUX employees are involved in the projects or in response to a recommendation from VELUX companies in the area. Such "Local Community Support" includes support for historical archives, climbing equipment for scouts and guides, hospital equipment - to name but a few.

Members of the Leslie & Glenrothes Pigeon Club meet Fridays and Saturdays during the race season from April to September to register 250-350 racing pigeons and transport them to the race starting point.

The races are typically held on Saturdays, and long distance races are about 600 miles - the pigeons fly from Reims in France and back home to Scotland.

The atmosphere on Saturday race-days runs high with tension and anticipation, and members and spectators alike enjoy a whole day out in the fresh air. Keeping racing pigeons takes great commitment and care, as they have to be fed, exercised and their lofts cleaned every single day.

With the financial support from the Employee Foundation, the club intends to modernise its club house so that both junior and senior members can enjoy pleasant surroundings when they devote so much time to their passion.
