How two simple things mean everything to Claus

Claus Lind Hansen

With 20 years on the production-floor at VELUX, Claus knows the company better than most. And people here know Claus. With his outgoing and curious nature he has been involved in everything from new products to new methods and there is no doubt that he has evolved both in terms of responsibility and as a valued colleague.

You do not have to spend a lot of time with Claus to understand that it is the combination of professional and collegial life that motivates him. When asked about his many years at the same company, he spends as much time talking about what he does, as who he does it with:

“Over the years I have met people who mean a great deal to me. Sure we laugh and tell jokes, but we also have each other’s back when times are tough or when we are met by challenges – we look after and protect each other. Those people have also found a special place in my private life, and even a girlfriend whom I love and could not live without”.

Looking after each other is not just a collegial thing in the production. Claus explains how It is a VELUX thing: “There are great benefits for all of us who work here. Health insurances and special employee-funds that anyone can apply to for personal reasons – you do not have to use it, but it is nice to know it is there. And if one day something should happen to me, there is a system here where I will not find myself without a job before everything has been done to look after me”.

Another thing Claus mentions is the informal tone that exists at VELUX. The flat hierarchy means that everyone can speak to anyone, whether it is high or low, management or production – and they do. The culture is one of the reasons why decisions can be made quickly and that new, bold ideas are suddenly tested and tried. And it is one of the reasons why Claus now works closely with the development team, to see what new products should see the light of day. Or as he puts it himself “At VELUX good ideas are not a question of education – any idea is welcomed here”.

There are great benefits for all of us who work here. Health insurances and special employee-funds that anyone can apply to for personal reasons – you don’t have to use it, but it’s nice to know it is there.
