Innovating sustainable products

Our goal is to develop products that increase the quality of life for homeowners and society as a whole, while reducing our environmental impact to a minimum.

EcoVadis 2023 gold sustainability rating

We hold ourselves accountable to our sustainability targets and initiatives by seeking independent assessments of our progress. The EcoVadis sustainability performance rating is a reliable and trusted assessment based on international sustainability standards. In 2023, VELUX was awarded gold, placing us in the top 30 companies rated in our EcoVadis category. We were recognised as having a best in-class carbon management system in addition to strong decarbonisation ambitions with approved science-based targets.

Built to Last

VELUX roof windows remain in roofs for at least three decades, bringing in daylight and fresh air and making indoor spaces bright, airy and open. They go through a variety of durability tests, such as anti-corrosion, mechanical and ageing tests, temperature, UV and humidity exposure, to ensure their high quality and a long life in your home. They are easy to maintain, upgrade and repair to ensure they stay in your home for generations to come.

Made of certified wood

VELUX roof windows are made of more than 99% certified wood. Our FSC and PEFC certified forest partners ensure the protection of biodiversity and wildlife habitat in the forests we source the wood from.
Sustainable harvest levels are secured through reforestation and replanting, so that new trees are planted to replace the wood we source.

Energy management reduces CO² emissions

Systematic energy management across our locations helps us to effectively monitor our energy consumption and implement new energy saving initiatives to fulfill our reduction target.

The life cycle of a VELUX roof window

A roof window from VELUX lasts many years. By using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method to document the environmental impact of our products, we can conclude that a VELUX roof window fully compensates for its CO² emissions by being energy efficient.

Improved indoor climate with our products

The first step towards a healthy and sustainable life starts at home. Since we spend up to 90% of our time indoors, it is important to maintain good air quality. Our products make it easy to create a healthy indoor climate and are being increasingly integrated with automatic sensor-driven solutions.

Our strategy mainly impacts these SDGs:
Goal 3

Sustainable development goal 3

Good health and well-being

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages are essential to sustainable development.

Our products provide daylight and fresh air from above, which improves the sense of health and well-being in a time where people spend up to 90% of their time indoors.

Goal 12
Sustainable development goal 12

Responsible consumption and production

The UN goals declare that urgent action is needed to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns across all sectors of the economy.

Our answer is to aim for a reduction of our carbon footprint by 50% in 2020 and to have zero waste from our production. All this should be achieved in a safe and healthy working environment where our employees thrive.
