People spend 90% of their time indoors, so the quality of your indoor climate (temperature, humidity, air quality, daylight levels) has a huge impact on your health and that of your family. Being too hot or cold is obvious – you can feel it. But what about the things that you can’t so easily feel? Too much moisture in the air at home can lead to coughs and colds, while too much CO2 leaves you feeling tired and sluggish. According to the World Health Organisation, indoor air in the developed world can often be up to five times more polluted than the air outside. That’s why we call it “fresh” air. Most people know it’s a good idea to air rooms out now and again. In fact it’s advisable to do this at least twice a day. Daylight is important too: not getting enough during the day has been shown to negatively affect sleep, while not having a properly darkened room at night can do the same.
VELUX ACTIVE takes care of all this for you. The system measures parameters like indoor and outdoor humidity, CO2 levels, and temperature, and then automatically operates your VELUX windows, blinds and shutters to ensure your indoor environment is optimum. The right mix of fresh, clean air, good moisture levels and a comfortable temperature – all provided in the most natural way by your VELUX roof windows. Of course they also close automatically when it rains. And because roof windows are located at the top of the house, where stale air tends to collect, the effects can be felt throughout the home.
The interface for all this functionality is an app for smartphone and tablet. It gives you full control over settings and parameters for operation of your windows, and of course you can override the system’s algorithms at any time for manual operation.
Soon you will be able to harness smart home innovation to make you and your family healthier, improve your mood and performance, and make your home a more enjoyable place to be. VELUX ACTIVE will be available for purchase in July 2018.
