LKR Innovation House
The LKR Innovation House represents a step forward in the transformation of our built environment to support healthier spaces for people and planet. Located in Østbirk, Denmark, this former timber warehouse has been reimagined and transformed into a vibrant, 14,000 m² innovation hub. Named after Lars Kann-Rasmussen, whose original vision was an “experiment in wood,” the building reflects our enduring commitment to building better.
Originally constructed in 1995 using untreated, locally sourced timber from Denmark and Sweden, the warehouse showcased the pioneering commitment of the VKR Group towards building more sustainably. Today, it has been thoughtfully expanded and renovated to become a modern workplace that brings together more than 500 employees across research and development, design, and supporting functions. The building includes a variety of offices, laboratories, and workshops designed to foster creativity and collaboration.
Renovation over new construction
A future-focused workspace
Designed to meet the evolving needs of our teams, the LKR Innovation House offers an inclusive and collaborative working environment; its diverse mix of spaces creates opportunities for collaboration that can spark innovation. The building supports a culture of experimentation rooted in our company’s legacy, inspired by the idea that “one experiment is better than a thousand expert views.”
Designed to be a healthy place to work, the LKR Innovation House is filled with daylight and fresh air. Two green courtyards bring the nature even further into the middle of the building, where a new inner façade is created that enables the strategic placement of nearby workplaces. By doing so, the LKR Innovation House invites nature into the building’s core, and the bright, airy green spaces contribute to a healthier workspace and become a central focal point for the whole house.
