Modern house with large windows and garden view at night.
A classic gets a new lease on life

"Generous glazed surfaces in a dated detached house."

Dusty bungalow

This somewhat dated bungalow near Düsseldorf with its floor-to-ceiling windows got the Listmann family thinking. Long story short, they snapped up the house and rethought the entire floor plan. The aim was to restore the dated glam of the dusty exterior and to complement it on the inside with open architecture.

A successful refurbishment

The classic style is enhanced by modernised window surfaces and the VELUX flat roof windows that provide even the innermost areas in the house with natural light and fresh air. This gives the formerly cramped property a completely new, open and bright structure. This also met the family’s desire for flexible multi-generation living.

Main benefits of getting VELUX roof windows

  1. Flooded with light: The classic style is enhanced by modernised window surfaces and the VELUX flat roof windows that provide even the innermost areas in the house with natural light and fresh air.

"Renovating and expanding on this scale is almost like building a new building. We preserved many elements of the old building while adding completely new ones, which gives our house its own very special charm," says Carola Schober-Listmann, architect.

Spacious, light-filled rooms

For example, the children's and parents' bathrooms, the staircase and the swimming pool extension have been fitted with VELUX flat roof windows to provide natural lighting and ventilation in the building. The transition to the enclosed bath has no door. Thanks to the two VELUX flat roof windows, the room still has plenty of fresh air and natural light.
