Chance for more dense development

In the five-floor, listed building in Wilhelmshöher Allee, the urgently needed refurbishment of the damaged and uninsulated mansard roof provided an opportunity for more dense development.

The new loft

Spacious and flooded with natural daylight, it’s a world away from the old, dark attic. The cleverly positioned VELUX windows are the key, which immerse the room in different lighting moods for all uses and times of day.

Main benefits of getting VELUX roof windows

  1. Equal heating requirement: Thanks to the high-quality thermal insulation and the triple glazing of all windows, the heating requirement of the building has remained the same, even though the living space has increased.

  2. Reduced humidity: The fact that humid air can move quickly through the open roof window after a shower significantly reduces the risk of mould growth and is another useful effect.

  3. Waking up to natural light: "Being able to look to the sky while taking a shower in the morning is just great," says Petra Fritsch (homeowner).

With the flat roof windows, we allowed natural light to penetrate down into the furthest reaches of the building. The large glass elements lie along one axis, accentuating the kitchen and the living-dining area in front of the fireplace.

Cooking and reading with warm, natural light

"When I cook or when I take a book off the shelf, I always take notice of how much daylight and brightness we've gained by adding the roof windows. During the day, I almost never have to switch on the artificial light," says Gerhard Greiner with delight.
